The cleaning sector employs over 1.47m people, making it one of the largest groups of employers in the UK. The £50bn Facilities Management sector includes building maintenance, construction and property management. Both have significant skills shortages and present a major opportunity for employing people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including prison leavers, and responds to our ambition to drive social mobility.

Sustainability is key to NGB CLEAN working towards net zero targets and with extensive assurance that all materials used and work done is compliant with our own high standards. This is being further endorsed by some manufacturers and other companies in the cleaning sector who are keen to support what we do and help us achieve success.
Cleaning has long been a neglected strand of progression, with significant, unexploited opportunities and NGB is one of very few organisations now operating in this space.
So how does this work? We are supporting people into careers in the cleaning and FM sectors at all levels including management, through a network of employers showing people that not only can it be a sound opportunity but also a valuable ‘side hustle’ for those that may also want to do other things.
We are organising training, employability and self-employment sessions to empower candidates, supported by our volunteers and working alongside the NGB Charity to change the perception of the industry towards prison leavers wanting good jobs.
Ride, recycle, repeat
10,000+ tonnes of bike tubes and tyres go to landfill every year.
With our commitment to sustainability, in collaboration with waste management firm Velorim Group Ltd. we are placing our unique branded recycling bins in corporate clients bike ‘stores’ in their offices across London so that the waste materials can be recycled into non-slip flooring, cycle paths and construction materials.
